British Fashion lost a heartland member of its ranks on Wednesday night. Katy Baggott, 39, the agent to Phoebe Philo, Juergen Teller and Katie Hillier among others over the years, has left us. Tonight I am attending the 40th birthday party of her best friend since the age of 14, Sammi, who has told me the party will be bringing all of her friends together, and that the evening is dedicated to celebrating her life.
Katy Baggott with Juergen Teller at Marc Jacobs SS10 show last September in NYC.
"Katy Baggott, agent extraordinaire, tragically and unexpectedly passed away yesterday, Wednesday 28 April, in her sleep. Baggot was one of those hugely influential and yet oft-unsung heroes of the fashion industry, a force of nature and enthusiasm. She was an agent who chose to work very closely with a small and hugely talented roster, her directness and honesty helping her to skilfully negotiate commercial contracts for her clients that gave them enough room to maintain their own character and style. She was unstinting in her loyalty, generosity and kindness to her friends as well as randomly helping anyone she was impressed by along the way with a simple introduction or recommendation. All that aside, Katy was great fun to be with and will be horribly missed by so many."

I was fortunate to get to know Katy 2 years ago and thought her to be one of nicest, sweetest and funniest people I had met in a very long time. I had recently told her of a career change I was making and have held her very encouraging words close to my heart during that process. I am deeply saddened by her passing and am only consoled by the fact that she left us in her sleep. I can only imagine how much she will be missed by those who knew her better than I did. Goodbye sweet Katy! RSB
ReplyDeleteKaty was a wonderful, sweet, caring and incredibly funny person. I only met her a few times, but even then she struck me as fantastic, warm and great fun to be around. You can't say that of many people in fashion, really. She will be greatly missed by very many.
ReplyDeleteI knew Katy socially and she really was a force of nature. It seems so wrong to speak of her in the past tense since her loss is still so raw and her very essence was vitality. It is a huge loss for many.
ReplyDeleteRIP, Katy B

Katy, it was my pleasure that I had the chance to meet you and become your friend. We will always remember you as the fast talking and even quicker thinking powerhouse; the unstoppable force of good – in the world of ashion as well as in the real world. You are irreplacable. You will be horribly missed by all of us.
ReplyDeleteIt's so sad. RIP Katy xx
ReplyDeleteDearest Katy, I loved you so much. I think I told you that several times but it needs to be said again. You were the life of the party and extremely talented, but also the most loyal, caring, warm and generous friend anyone could ever wish for. You have left a big hole in my life and I will be one of the hundreds of people that will miss you forever. Life is not the same without you.
ReplyDeleteShe was wonderful, and stood out from the earliest time I knew her...
ReplyDeleteShe will be very much missed by everyone who knew her.
Peace, Love and Light to you; the memory of your smile always with me.
ReplyDeleteShe was an outstanding and wonderful person, full of warmth and grace, and I always enjoyed working with her in London. May peace and love always be with you.
ReplyDeleteI only just heard today. Katie was so radiant and warm, with huge enthusiasm for life. It was only a week ago during the sunny spell that I chatted to her on calvert avenue, she was looking great and happy, the memory will remain with me.
ReplyDeleteI will all her friends and family well X B

Dito Avian. We all had wonderful teenage years in and out of all our houses in Chalfont and beyond. I used to catch the bus to school with her and enjoyed many a laugh.
ReplyDeleteIt is so sad and my thoughts and love are with her family.
What a sad shame. I knew Katie from early 90s when she assisted me frequently. I lost
ReplyDeletetouch but never forgot that warm smile and kind hearted warmth.
