FREJA

Freja Beha Erichsen is without doubt the model whose work I currently, lets say, appreciate the most. The girl has all the charisma and intense appeal Kate Moss had in her early days. However where Kate was an enigmatic will -o-the-wisp, Freja is a swaggeringly sexy, dangerously beautiful creature who adds a frisson of brilliance to everything she does. Maybe its because she's gay like me and out and proud, (despite the Vogue profile last month that skirted the issue), that I paticularly admire her being totally herself in the fashion industry. Gay girls are hugely outnumbered by gay boys in global fashion.

As I write the 22 years old from Roskilde, Denmark, sits at number two in the models.com global model rankings. Lara Stone is number one; but it should be Freja. She is the face of Valentino, Chanel, Tom Ford, Balenciaga and MaxMara for AW10, and the cover of French and British Vogue for August. AND DID I MENTION HER AMAZING NEW HAIR????

Her  layered (lightly permed?) haircut is my new obsession. I am seriously considering losing my almost the same length all over shoulder length brunette locks in favour of working this. What do you think?? Shall I??

  1. I think you absolutely should go for the chop! Her hair is amazing

I was a little bit annoyed that Vogue skirted the fact that she is gay- it just seemed totally odd. I was so happy when I found out, just because as you say, gay women are so under repped in the fashion industry. And because she is mega hot. Definitely new crush material.

  2. I completely agree, gay girls are without a doubt outnumbered by gay guys in the fashion industry...things should change. Freja's hair is gorgeous too, she always looks stunning: she has a great look.

  4. Dear Melanie, you can definietly rock the look, I saw a picture of you in the daily mail were you had wavy mid length hair and you looked pretty- so if you decide to get a fringe and work the layered curly, permed waves number like Freja -you can pull it off. Nite nite, finally finished the 14th chapter. Yay

  6. Hi Melanie, I think I am (much) older than you which means I was 16 in 1977; ooh gave that right away didn't I? Anyway the haircut I fell in love with, got, and totally rocked was pretty much identical to this one, it was called the 'Coupe Sauvage' it was featured in the August or September issue of that year's Vogue. I returned to school for the first year of the sixth form as the coolest girl in the school entirely contributable to that haircut. In those days, tongs were required but as long as you have a bit of a natural wave and modern styling products it's very easy to do. Go for it!

  8. She looks so, so incredibly different in these photographs, I didn't realise it was her at all! She is so versatile and it's great how much recognition she has finally had over the past couple of years.

Please take a look at my brand new blog, Fashion Stereotype I've followed your blog for ages now and would really appreciate any feedback or advice you may have :) Thank you!

  9. Swagger is the perfect word!
I have been increasingly intrigued by the idea of a new generation perm... Something to research, I feel. The length is great too. She seems to effortlessly combine 70s wild child with hard rock chick. Jealous much??

  11. In a brave (foolhardy?) moment last week, I excitedly waved a picture of Freja at my hairdresser and asked that he chop, chop, chop away my waist-length Rapunzel hair.

I think you should down a shot of Vodka (or two!) and do precisely the same. ;0)

  12. THANKYOU - I'm a bit in love, ok a lot in love with Freja. I know this season is supposed to be about the voluptuous look, and I've actually had an anonymous complaint when I posted Freja on my blog (saying that she looked far too think in the photos - Vogue brocade-y eveningwear story from last winter), seriously, this girl is EVERYWHERE! Long may she reign. Move over Moss. Please.
